Continuing the cycle of care

Once you have a concentrator from Medical Comfort Systems it is important to start a maintenance schedule for the unit.
FILTERS:
Air from the room is drawn into the oxygen machine through the gross particle filters. This air provides a source of oxygen for you. It is very important to check this filter daily and rinse any dust off if needed.
To clean the filter weekly:
1. Remove the gross particle filters (sponge filters) on each side.
2. Wash the filters in a mild detergent solution.
3. Rinse thoroughly.
4. Squeeze out any excess water.
5. Allow filter to air dry.
6. Place filters back on the unit.
NASAL CANNULA (Nose Piece):
This is a device to deliver oxygen to your nose. You should wipe this off as needed with a damp cloth. You should also change to a new cannual (nose piece) weekly. Discard the old cannula in a waste container.
OXYGEN TUBING:
The oxygen tubing (usually 25 to 50 feet) connects between the concentrator and the nasal cannula. It connects with the cannula via a oxygen tubing connector (green item below). This extension tubing needs to be replaced once a month.
HUMIDIFIER (Water Bottle):
This is a device to add moisture to the delivered oxygen. These bottles have a minimum and a maximum fill line. You should fill the bottle with distilled water keeping it between the two lines and not exceding the maximum line. You should change the water and clean the bottle every 48 hours.
After opening the distilled water it should be refridgerated to keep bacteria out.
To clean the humidifier bottles:
1. Disassemble the bottle by unscrewing it from the oxygen machine. Then unscrew the top from the bottle.
2. Wash in warm, soapy water.
3. Rinse thoroughly (make sure all soap is off the bottle).
4. Soak the bottle in a solution of one (1) part white vinegar and four (4) parts hot water.
5. Allow to air dry on a towel.
6. Discard the bottle when it becomes discolored or when it quits working.
